Supercomputers and FF7
So... I'm sitting here at school. Bored out of my mind. I'm running a program that's modeling the differential cooling of a lava lake... and it's iterating over 50 years... by seconds. This is where I really appreciate how useful a supercomputer would be right about now. All my profs say that geophysical computation is always a step ahead of the technology of the times. We've got the equations... we just don't have the computing power to run the programs to model things on the scale we need them. They test supercomputers nowadays with the equations that model the Earth's gravitational field caused by the geodynamo. Only within the last couple of years has the computer spat out something that even remotely resembled the observed field. Granted, my program isn't nearly that complex... it's just taking it's dear sweet time doing it's thing.
In other news, I've been playing Final Fantasy VII. And I'm addicted. Granted, I was addicted to FFX once I warmed up to Tidus, but... I really like Cloud (messed up though he is). And Tifa is teh awesome. Sephiroth makes a pretty cool villian as well. I like the Chocobos... so I'm working on breeding/racing them right now. Anyway, I never got a chance to play many videogames as a kid, so this is the first time for me playing through stuff like that. Here's hoping that the PS3 release will do the original justice.
And finally, in SkyFall news--the new page is almost ready to go for Monday, so expect a timely update.

Lol, I just started playing FFVII too. It was all Advent Children's fault, after seeing the movie I just had to dig my hand-me-down PS1 out and start playing the game. It is an awesome game, even by today's standards :)
On thing though, a PS3 remake of FF7 is only speculation at this point. About a year ago they came up with a technical demo for the PS3 which turned into Advent Children and all it's luscious goodness. Before it's release Square was saying that they wouldn't remake FF7 but after AC's success things are up in the air again.
Er, sorry about that. What can I say, I'm obsessed ^^;

*nodnod* Anyway, the only reason I'd probably buy a PS3 is if there was a revamped version of FF7. I made the mistake of playing FFX first, so the change in graphics really threw me. I'm starting to get used to them now, though.
Ah, possibly my favorite game...definately my favorite Final Fantasy. I can't decide whether I want a remake or not...
